With the smaller turbo you get that great low end torque that make these cars such a blast to drive. Remove the solenoid and then Remove the planetary gears. I replaced the drive, which is a HUGE pain. The drive is normally good still on these starters. You can tell though by turning the drive by hand while holding the planetary gears still. It should go smoothly one direction, and then not turn the other direction.Thank you oilhammer! Yup, the OP is not talking about the engine glow plugs, he is talking about the separate set of 3 plugs installed in the coolant flange at the head for mk3 TDIs. They are there to help provide heat and speed up warm-up. From what I have read the ECU has control over them through two relays.The 1.8t TSI while may not be able to pound down trouble free miles of the TDI, it is a nice little mill once the revs are up and can be quite a sleeper with a turbo upgrade. That's the sequence. So if clutch is recent, still intact then most likely you have a small fluid leak and as fluid was leaking out, air crept in. It takes a fully bled system to push the pedal back up. Air will not do it. If clutch is kaput, that's another possibility. Gary.I'd remove the air filter box for easy access. Place a piece of clear plastic tubing on the slave cylinder (plastic) bleeder bolt, place hose in bottle or can. Ensure the master cylinder reservoir is full (The brake and clutch master cylinders share the same reservoir). Open bleeder bolt. Slowly push clutch pedal down and release..
